The USC Keck School of Medicine teaches and trains physicians, conducts research, and treats patients. Founded in 1885, it is the second oldest medical school in California.

USC’s Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute is a multifaceted resource for clinical and community-partnered research, powered by a collaborative team of clinicians, scientists, and staff, focused on helping researchers navigate approaches and tools to stretch the reach and impact of their work.

In support of that mission, we worked with the Institute to build a webinar series that helps USC researchers understand and adopt the latest digital resources. The result is the Digital Scholar Webinar Series, which explores digital topics such as:

Examples of Topics Covered

21st century tools for sharing your science
Digital strategies to find the right journal for research
Social media and the 21st century scholar
Crowdsourcing applied to knowledge management

Praise from Faculty Participants

Faculty and staff have found the series incredibly valuable. Not only has it been a source and learning and best practices, but it was also served as a major driver of engagement and collaboration among faculty researchers.

“Informative, helpful, it was great! Thanks for doing it as a webinar….it can be hard to get away, so webinars are a very good idea.”

- D. Modjeski, USC Keck School of Medicine

Faculty members have also praised the approach of breaking the series down into discrete, useful topics, such as "Creating an effective study recruitment webpage." Tips such as the right keywords to include in recruitment materials have been immediately actionable, helping researchers improve operational aspects such as recruiting right away.

“I greatly appreciated the tips on writing the recruitment of subjects, especially the use of commonly used words.”

- F. De la Cruz, USC Keck School of Medicine

Finally, because the series was designed to be interactive, it has helped USC Keck achieve another mission-critical objective: fostering community and collaboration across the school.

“The presenter is knowledgeable and impacted knowledge verily. I particularly liked how he addressed the questions of participants.”

- Z. Yunusa, USC Keck School of Medicine
